Homerton College

The Summer School is based at Homerton College in Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
Homerton is one of the collegiate colleges of Cambridge Univercity, a world-renowned seat of learning.
Homerton College was originally in London , but was re-founded by the Congregational Board of Education and became solely concerned with the training of teachers, both men and women, for Board schools. In 1894 it moved to Cambridge to get away from an increasingly industrialised East End and acquired the buildings known as Cavendish College in Hills Road . These still form the core of the old College. Almost immediately it became women-only since a mixed college was an anathema to an all-male University at that time. By the 1970's it began to take men again and became an 'Approved Society' of the University of Cambridge with most of its undergraduates reading for the Education Tripos. In the late 1990's it went through a massive programme of rebuilding and refurbishment. In 2001 it converged with the University.
Homerton is now firmly established as a College of the University of Cambridge , dedicated as it always has been, to excellence in education and to maintaining a leading role in the great education debate.
Residential delegates stay in student accommodation of conference standards. Homerton College has 365 en-suite bedrooms - 284 in modern buildings, and a further 81 in the Victorian part of the College. Visitors are welcome to use the College Launderettes which have coin-operated washing machines, dryers, irons and ironing boards. |
